Crest SafeCrest reticulated polyurethane foams
for explosion suppression and surge/noise mitigation are unique, environmentally-friendly
materials for use in fuel tanks of aircraft, boats, military
vehicles, competition and emergency vehicles, automobiles and trucks- virtually
any vehicle where the possibility of fuel tank explosion exists, or where surge/noise
mitigation is required.
Explosion Suppressant Foam
(ESF) has been used successfully in thousands of installations for over three
decades. Proprietary manufacturing processes and special thermal reticulation
techniques permit production of flexible skeletal foam structures with precisely
controlled pore sizes and without cell membranes. The resultant "open pore" foam
exhibits many unique characteristics and offers special advantages in fuel tanks
for explosion suppression, fuel surge control, and noise mitigation applications
of all kinds.
SafeCrest
ESF is designed for use in rigid and flexible (bladder type) fuel tanks and
fuel cells in virtually any vehicle, vessel, or aircraft. Because of its unique
characteristics, special advantages, and cost-effectiveness, industry, government
agencies, and organizations
around the world are incorporating SafeCrest
in special use vehicles of all kinds-aircraft and land vehicles, VIP vehicles,
competition cars and boats, recreational watercraft, consumer vehicles-for added
safety and/or fuel surge control and noise mitigation.
SafeCrest ESF has an impressive
track record of success for many years. It is currently used in military transport/reconnaissance
aircraft such as C-130 Hercules and P-3 Orions, fighter aircraft such as F-4s,
F-5s, F-14s, F-15s, F-18s, A-1Os, A-37s, and the
T-1A trainer (the military version of the popular Citation series of corporate
aircraft), as well as military helicopters, battle tanks,
and transport vehicles. Experience and expertise gained over these years has led to highly refined
SafeCrest materials with precise and repeatable
pore sizes, reduced
weight and displacement, and excellent static dissipation properties. SafeCrest
materials are strong, consistent in quality,
and resistant to most fuels.
SafeCrest
Class 2 materials exhibit outstanding anti-static properties down to -250F,
excellent hydrolytic stability, and a long service life. In fact, SafeCrest Class
2 foam recently removed from a Navy P-3 Orion was extensively tested and proved
to be just as effective as when installed over eight years earlier, with absolutely
no degradation of properties.
Explosion
suppressant foam has been mandated by a number of world class organizations that
sponsor professional and amateur automobile racing. Among these are the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), NASCAR, and the Federation Internationale de Automobile (FIA). SafeCrest is also ideal for hostile environments
subject to incendiary small arms fire (aircraft, armored personnel carriers, tanks,
patrol boats, police cars, armored cars, diplomatic
vehicles, for example). In fact, SafeCrest is designed for use in virtually any
fuel tank where an explosion hazard may exist, including commercial and general
aviation aircraft, competition boats, and automobiles.
Consider these unique
advantages of SafeCrest explosion suppressant foam:
·
Prevents catastrophic explosionsof
ignited fuel vapors in the tank caused by electrical arcing,
overheating of internal components, lightning strikes, or
by static electrical discharge.
·
Maintenance-free-SafeCrest contains no moving parts
or electrical devices
·
Passive operation-SafeCrest requires no action by operators
or crews. It is effective 100% of the time and doesn't need
control devices or trigger mechanisms. SafeCrest continues
to work as long as it is present and intact
·
Efficacy (explosion suppression) is unaffected by fuel
tank punctures, ruptures, fuel level, speed, attitude or
altitude
·
May be fabricated into any shape
to conform to internal structural members and components
such as pumps, valves, sensors, filters, fuel lines, etc.
·
Mitigates fuel spray in the event of fuel tank rupture
from compressive forces
·
Effectively baffles fuel to control surging and eliminate
sloshing. Improves handling in high performance vehicles;
eliminates fuel "slapping" noise in tank
·
Quick, easy installation without special tools or skills;
fuel wetting and low swelling characteristics of SafeCrest
insure a snug fit without the need for oversizing of foam.
SafeCrest can be retrofitted to existing fuel tanks
·
Lowest logistics support-Once installed inside a fuel
tank or cell, there's no need for anyexternal supportive
equipment such as required by gas inerting systems
·
Cost-effective-Lowest initial cost of any other system
offering explosion protection; lowest cost to maintain,
and low weight penalty
